Income Eligible Households per Home Sold
Description
HR&A calculated the income required to afford principal and interest payments at a 30% of household income threshold for a home at each price point using the national annual average 30-year fixed mortgage rate and assuming a 20% down payment. HR&A then used PUMS data to determine the number of households by tenure with the minimum income required to purchase a home at each price point. HR&A counted the number of first-lien, owner-occupied, non-commercial, non-reverse, non-open-end, home-purchase mortgages originated at or below each price point. Finally, HR&A calculated the number of income-eligible households as a ratio of the number of homes sold at each price point.
